BowerBird...

I have liked Sibella Court for some time now and
love her style, paint colors and books.
I got her newest book, The Life of a Bowerbird, just the other day
and of course sat down and read it front to back
without stopping. It makes you love your own personal
collections that much more and maybe even consider
bringing them out from hiding...you have hid them
because you don't want people to know you are a bowerbird.
Below are just a few of Sibella's own collections.
Some of these look similar to a few I'm hoarding.
Maybe many of us were Bower birds in a past life.

Back to School...

It's that time of year again,
when the weather starts showing little hints of fall,
summer vacations come to an end
and kids go back to school.
We don't have two legged kids (we have the four legged kind)
but we do go back to school in my house
because you see, my Mr O is a music teacher
for both elementary and middle school at a local
private school.
So, we do the annual back to school shopping,
you can't have your teacher wearing last years garb.
It's an adjustment for me and my "boys".
They spend more time at home alone and well,
I lose my house husband which means I have to
start doing my part around the house.
Like I said it's an adjustment.

So to all those amazing teachers and
their students...

Welcome back to School!

real books for reading....

"a home without books,
is a home without a soul."
-anonymous

i do believe that....
have you ever walked into a house
and it just doens't feel quite right and
you can't put your finger on it until...
suddenly you realize, there are no books!

there isn't a room in my house that doesn't
have a book in it. truly, there are stacks and
cases of books in my house.
they are my soul....

collections....

lately i keep reading, seeing and hearing about peoples
collections....
i wondered, what do i collect....
other then weight?
i realized i'm not a collector by nature
but there are a few things i tend to accumulate
unknowingly but i tend not to clump them together
in my home. they live organically through out.
maybe that's why i haven't noticed i do collect.

books....
boxes....
old  & vintage textiles....

then there are the collections i have inherited
(these tend to live together)

old wood cookie molds....
spoons....
delft blue....
art reflective of anything dutch....

these were my dad's and i haven't added to them,
it feels like cheating or something.
these were his and should stay his
even though they have become part of my life.

i looked around and found a few vintage collections
i could see getting obsessed about.

i can see how someone can get enthralled
with a item, the hunt for it and the thrill of the catch
all to bring it home amongst their other trophies.

what do you collect?
how do you display it in your home?

happy collecting!

books....

there is something to this time of year that makes you want to
curl up in a comfortable chair,
in your favorite sweats,
with a roaring fire going in the fireplace
with a great book
to take you away to a far away place.
